I am a jack of all trades, master of none, singer, songwriter, guitarist, poet, photographer, philosopher, self-made computer nerd, web designer, dreamer, dog owner and god fearing atheist. I took photography courses at Dawson College in 1970 and 71 with Sam Getz and Glay Sperling but my love of photography comes from my father and his old Yashica C (which I still have). My father had a great eye and from a young age I was fascinated with the magic that photography could capture. My first magic photographic moment was taking pictures of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show with my Kodak Brownie when I was 12 and then selling copies of them to my older sister's girlfriends who gave out little shrieks if you just mentioned the words John, Paul, Ringo and George. That was so cool. I inherited my father's Yashica when he got a 35mm Minolta and took hundreds of pictures of my brother and sister and of course the dog. They weren't great pictures but that never stopped them from being magical. I stopped taking photos in my early 20s to pursue a life of poverty as a musician or so it seems in retrospect but in my late 40s I discovered I was good at the computer, learned to make web pages which led to graphics which led to digital cameras which brought me back to my early love of photography. I have a dog, Sydney, who goes nearly every day to the dog run along with my Nikon and I shoot endless amounts of dog pictures, they are such amazing creatures, hopefully you will see some of the magic I tried to capture in some of my images. Don't be shy, checkout my youtube pages and songs and remember I said "master of none". A special thanks to Bonnie Folkins who urged me to work in black and white and look at my dog photos as art and to my sweet Emilie who miraculously puts up with me and takes care of me on a daily basis without the help of pharmaceuticals. |
